We’ve got everything you need to make your brand-new fur baby feel right at home!
So you got yourself a new furry friend to keep you company – that’s great!
Owning a dog is every bit as fun as it’s cut out to be; just imagine coming home from a long, hard day of work only to be welcomed by an adorable little pup waiting eagerly by your doorstep.
Although taking care of a dog is incredibly enjoyable, it’s also a huge responsibility and a serious commitment. If you’re a first time pet owner, you might not know where to start, so let’s break it down for you. Here’s a list of the must-have essentials you need to make a warm, comfy home for your paw-rrific addition to the family!
Don’t forget dog food, dog bowl, and other essentials!
Doggo’s gotta eat, of course! Make sure to shop for some nutritious dog food for your pup’s meals, like Pedigree Dry Puppy Mini Beef, Lamb & Vegetable, or its other flavors. A food bowl is also a must-have to avoid any unwanted mess on your nice, clean floor! And after a possibly messy meal, don’t forget to give your little pupper a nice, clean, refreshing bath – why not use Paws & Fur Shampoo Fresh Powder while you’re at it? You can also choose from scents – Lavender Bloom or Sea Breeze.
Get him a water dispenser
With this sweltering Philippine heat, you’ve gotta keep your fur baby happy and hydrated! There are some really neat, straw-like water dispensers that you can attach to your dog’s enclosure if you want to save space. Otherwise, any ordinary stainless steel bowl should serve its important purpose!
Provide a safe, comfy enclosure.
For the times you’ll have to leave your dog alone at home (an owner’s gotta work!), investing in a spacious enclosure is worthwhile. If you can’t stand the thought of leaving your precious pup all locked up, but you don’t want to come home to a run-down house, you can opt for a fence instead. More freedom for pupper, less chaos for the master!
Keep them on a leash.
We don’t mean this figuratively (your pup should roam free, too!), but literally. You’ll need a sturdy leash to keep your dog safe and close to you on your walks. Walking your hyperactive pup is an excellent way for both of you to bond while getting some much-needed exercise. Make sure to get a leash that fits snugly enough so your pup doesn’t accidentally escape! Pro-tip: Brand-new owners of flat-faced dogs such as pugs and bulldogs should consider investing in harness-type leashes since these breeds have very short necks. Regular leashes might not be comfortable for the poor doggos, who might feel suffocated.
Get a tray for potty training.
Image credit: Ebay It’s inevitable! Accidents will happen while you’re still in the early stages of training your new dog on how, when, and where to pee and poop. To make things much easier to clean, purchase a tray specifically designed for indoor potty training. Just place a fresh newspaper on top and you should be all set.
Don’t forget lots of toys to chew and nibble on!
If you’re getting a puppy only a few months old, you can expect a lot of teething. Make sure to get rubber toys for your little baby to chew on so your house doesn’t end up in shreds!
Get treats for training.
When training your dog, it’s best to have a little delicious treat to give after a successful trick for some good ‘ol positive reinforcement. After all, it’s best to teach these puppers new tricks while they’re still young! The Pedigree Rodeo Beef & Liver is a yummy treat to give your dog, or the Dentastix Puppy, which is a snack and an oral care treat in one! If you love dogs just as much as we do, please feel free to support the Pawssion Project by donating any amount you’d like to change the life of our furry friends. And there you have it! We’re excited for all your exciting adventures as a brand-new doggie parent. Have a barkin’ time!
